How to Extend Your DLP's Life Span

Notable Quote: “The theatrical side of retail was lost,” said Paco Underhill, the author of “Why We Buy” and the founder of Envirosell, a retail consulting firm. “The big-box store has its limits and people are looking for a different model.”

A great article on Samsung's new 10,000 s.f. Manhattan store. Customers can "experience" the merchandise...but must go elsewhere to buy.  Though they do not specifically mention charging an admission for entry into the facility--Samsung's new location does seem to be more "experientially oriented" than the AT&T/Cingular store mentioned in the article.

"The history of all economic progress is to charge a fee for what once was free. When a person (sole proprietor) or group of people (larger company) does for people what they once did for themselves, they are providing an economic offering." - B. Joseph Pine II and James H. Gilmore, authors of The Experience Economy.

I look forward to visiting this location on my next trip to New York.

How to Extend Your DLP's Life Span

samsung-67-inch-dlp.jpg Most DLPs offer mammoth screen sizes (50 inches and up) at reasonable prices, but like plasmas and LCDs, they're far from perfect. To keep your DLP fine-tuned, the gang at HDTV Mag suggest you take extra care of its lamp cartridge. Lamps typically last from 2,000 to 8,000 hours, and replacing one can cost you as much as $500. So if you've got a spankin' new DLP you wanna pamper, make sure to follow these tips.

Keep Heavy Vibration to a Minimum: Kids jumping around, heavy footsteps, and even too much rumble from your speakers can cause your lamp to vibrate which is bad news for your DLP.

Let it Breathe: Like all components, your DLP needs room to breathe. Make sure it has proper ventilation and isn't too crammed into your living room.
